American Heart Association: Vestido Rojo

I had the honor of sitting beside some of my awesome blog sisters during an intimate conference at the American Heart Association about the Vestido Rojo event. I had no idea that heart disease was the No. 1 killer of Hispanic women; it really opened my eyes and motivated me to make healthier choices. The American Heart Association and Go Red Por Tu Corazón are committed to fighting heart disease. “Vestido Rojo”  (Red Dress) is a vibrant community event to help Hispanic women live healthier lives with activities to promote physical, emotional and financial well-being for families and communities. Be sure to join the event this Saturday, Febuary 27th, 2016 in the San Antonio Event Center located at 8111 Meadow Leaf Drive, San Antonio, TX 78227.

Facts: On average, Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than non-Hispanic white women. Despite the heightened risk, most are still unaware of the health threat to themselves and their families. Only about 29% of Latinas are aware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer, compared with 57% of women overall.
