Attention all Virgins! Facial Virgins that is!

Are you a Spa Facial Virgin? Are you scared to get a facial? Have you been told the myth of “you’ll breakout after a facial” crap?  First off, that’s so not true if done correctly! Secondly, 17+ years in the industry, I know a bit about what I’m talking about. You MUST come in for an appointment with me. Unlike most intimidating expensive spas, I am located in a serene, feel at home place. To make it affordable for first timers, I have a really good deal for December. Take advantage! And also facialtreat your loved ones …I do have gift cards!

I’ve heard a facial can cause you to break out – is this true?

Properly performed, facials generally do not cause breakouts – rather, they speed up the healing process and prevent future breakouts. Improperly performed, the reverse can be true. This is one reason you should carefully select where you choose to receive your facials. The most common cause of post-facial breakouts is incomplete extractions.  If an esthetician chooses to extract a pore which is not ready, or if she begins to extract a pore and does not finish the extraction process, this can bring the sebum to the surface and cause a pimple to form. Unlike estheticians that do this, I am very thorough with my extracting, that’s one of the most important parts of a facial and why I have clients return regularly! My acne prone clients usually start to clear up the following day. Low-quality products, unnecessary ingredients, or not being familiar with skin types can also cause negative skin reactions. So always get the background of your esthetician. I also include the use of “high-frequency” equipment at the end of the extraction process which also decreases the likelihood of post-facial breakouts.  High-frequency kills bacteria and closes up the pores that were extracted.

ExtractionWhat is an extraction?

Extractions are considered the heart of a facial – they are the manual removal of sebum (oil and dirt; blackheads and whiteheads) from your pores. It is the sebum, trapped within the pores beneath the skin’s top layers, which can cause breakouts. Once I exfoliate and soften up your skin, I proceed to apply pressure to congested areas on your face, using either my fingers or cotton swabs in order to remove the sebum from your pores.  I don’t use a metal extractor, to me, it’s not only awfully painful, it leaves the skin red also. I want my clients glowing after a facial, not all marked up like they got into a fight. Sebum-free pores not only don’t develop pimples, they appear much smaller, making your skin look clearer and brighter.

What is involved in a facial at The Lil Spa Room?

First, you will be asked to complete a brief intake form, so your preferences, needs and current skin condition and concerns can be properly considered. I then step out of the room so that you can undress and change into a spa wrap to make you comfortable and be cozy under the linens on the heated facial table. Some or all of the following steps will be performed, depending on the analysis and the facial selected: cleansing, skin analysis, exfoliation (removal of dead skin cells), decrustation (dissolving of surface oils), steaming, hot aromatherapy towel application, extractions (see below), application of skin-balancing mask and/or other treatment products, massage, hydration and skin protection. Suggestions for home care will be provided.

Which facial should I get?

If you select a facial, and I feel that it is not the right choice for you (following skin analysis), I’ll let you know and recommend something else. My service menu has full descriptions and pricing information on all my treatments.  First-timers, sensitive, normal, normal-to-dry, normal-to-oily, combination skin, facials for men, special occasions, corrective treatments, dry or mature skin, oily/acne-prone, anti-aging, and teen skin…there’s something for EVERYONE!The Lil Spa Room Treatments

Why should I have a facial?

Regardless of your age or gender, if you want your skin to look its best you have to take care of it. A facial does for your skin what a month of exercise and good nutrition does for your body – noticeably improve its look and feel.  Through exfoliation, deep-cleaning of the pores, stimulating improved circulation, and use of professional-strength products, I can make a lot of progress towards improving your skin in a single session. Kinda like a personal trainer, that has experience, techniques, products and equipment that cannot be replicated at home. I can also steer you in the right direction to having a better skin care routine at home to maintain the results that you want.

spaWhy should you choose ME as your esthetican?

Not only have I been in the Spa/Salon industry for over 17 years, but I have had elite training in some of the best luxury spas and resorts. Not to mention all the courses and classed I have taken on my own. How can I be a good client?

That’s an easy question to answer. Arrive a few minutes ahead of your appointment. This will give you time to fill out your intake form. If possible, come without makeup on. Removing lots of makeup takes time out of your facial for the good stuff. Keep in my mind this  is my job, so all you have to do is  relax and enjoy every minute of it. My facials are designed to be a mix of clinical treatments and relaxing spa experiences. You are under no obligation to make conversation with me- this won’t hurt my feelings one bit! However, please do communicate any discomfort, preferences or questions you may have at any time.

Hope those of you that have been contemplating whether or not to get a facial have changed your minds! I look forward to seeing you and making your skin glow and look years younger.
