Hashtag Ideas & How to Register Yours

What the heck is a hashtag? Hashtags are any word in the social conversation that begins with the “#” symbol; often referred to as the “pound sign”. If you’re on social media for business or pleasure, using them can link you to trending topics, events, cool activities and/or just be a way to express yourself a bit more in your posts. When using hashtags in private posts on your social media sites, only your approved friends and followers will be able to see your hashtags. When your posts are made public, your hashtags can be picked up by anyone which brings more exposure to your posts and are a great way to network or link up with other people that have similar interests.

Registering your hashtag gives you access to help track your posts, puts it in a directory, and makes it easier for people to find you and your hashtag. A registered hashtag is great for conferences, Twitter chats, small groups and spreading the word about your brand. Keep in mind you cannot legally own a hashtag. The goal is that you habitually use a chosen hashtag and people will associate it with your brand. The hashtag selected should be a distinctive phrase or word associated with your company or messaging.  My suggestion is to use your hashtag on ALL your social media posts. If your social media accounts are public, use some of these hashtags to bring more followers to your sites and click on them to see what interesting posts you come across!
