It’s JUST Facebook…Don’t Take it so Seriously!

How many times have you heard or said that to yourself? There are many of us out there that are hooked on social media because it entertains us during the day. You read someone’s status, posts, or comments and just as you are about to be bothered, you tell yourself “it’s JUST Facebook!” Well before you think Facebook is a waste of time, dumb, and you shouldn’t take anything seriously, let me tell you what Facebook has done for me personally and for my business.

WorldWhen I was single and ready to mingle, I had all the time in the world to attend just about every gathering, party, lunch, and event that I was invited to. I am not single anymore, my priorities have changed drastically, therefore I simply do not have the time to be out and about like I use to. With Facebook, I get to see pictures and read about what I’m missing out on by not being there.  Birthday parties, classmate reunions, family gatherings, weddings, client events, etc. Whatever the occasion is that I was not able to attend, I get to see how happy everyone is and the good time they are having. As we all grow older, move to different parts of the world, change our look, start new careers or families, it’s impossible to travel everywhere to keep in touch with everyone.  Facebook keeps me up to date on how great the new job is going, how being a newlywed is pure bliss, how being a new parent is the best blessing ever, and I get to see children blossom as well. I love laughing and being silly so sharing corny jokes and crazy shit to make people laugh makes my day too.

I have always hustled on having my own side income coming in.  As much as I love the spa industry, it’s VERY unstable. Because of Facebook, I have met so many new people who have opened many BIG doors for me and my business. For starters, I started blogging on my own to share my beauty tips with everyone. With the spa-zillion beauty blogs out there, I was wondering why I didn’t have many readers checking out my blogs. It was clearly by fate that I met my editor and now close friend and business partner Lisa Pietsch. She happened to stumble upon a blog of mine in a Facebook group. She contacted me, said she enjoyed reading my blogs, and then asked if I wanted to be a beauty writer for her online magazine. Talk about excited! My husband and I googled the magazine just to make sure it wasn’t some spam message…sure enough, it was not! Lisa showed me the ropes of what blogging with a collaborative blog can really do if done with the right people….I was amongst a real pro. My business has increased drastically and I was able to leave the corporate world to do what I love without the life being sucked out of it because of all the new clients I was able to reach.card

Through my beauty and blogazine posts I reach out to women (and men) internationally on a daily basis. Both sites get read 200-700 times a day. I get to share my beauty, spa, and home remedy tips; I get inboxed skin care questions daily, and develop future client relationships. I share personal stories, poetry I write when I’m deep in thought, positive, motivating sayings, and sometimes vent about things that bother me. I post pictures to share with all of you the family I am so proud of and my bratty dog that warms my heart.  I let you get to know me so when you become a client you feel right at home and comfortable. I am able to do this from wherever I am at because of technology and bring you along with me on my adventures, whether it’s out having fun drinking margaritas or business related. Me

So do you still think Facebook is waste of time? If you do, then start taking advantage of what it can do for you in a positive way instead of getting wrapped up with arguments or drama people create on there. The delete and block feature that’s available is there for a reason. So with all that said…thank you Facebook universe for allowing me to read, see, share, gain, love, suggest, and be able to be a part of everyone’s life and whereabouts wherever I may be. Never underestimate the power of social media, it’s bigger than you may think and you  never know who you’re gonna meet. Gotta update my Facebook status…Till my next blog!

  1. I was just thinking about this today! When I look back at the string of tiny coincidences that got me to where I am today, it’s just amazing. SAXtreme magazine had a short run but it served to put us together and the rest is history. Never, ever underestimate the power of a social network!
