Noticing WRINKLES on one side more than the other?

Ever looked at your face in the mirror for a long time and noticed one side had more signs of aging than the other? As you age, the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin break down, so the skin is increasingly less likely to snap back. If you drive a lot during the day, chances are you have more wrinkles on the left side of your face because it is exposed more frequently to damaging UVA rays than the right. UVA rays can travel through glass, and many sunscreens protect you only from UVB rays.

wrinklesAlmost all faces have a larger and smaller side, and each is subject to slightly different movements as we talk, smile, frown, and make other facial gestures. Some people hold one eyebrow higher or squint more with one eye than the other, resulting in a different or deeper line pattern on one side of the face. Sleeping on the same side for years can also play a role. If you have a pattern of sleeping on one side, that side of your face will typically show more wrinkling than the other; the difference is very subtle. Smoking can also contribute to uneven wrinkles in your face. Just think of the facial expressions you are making when you take a puff from your cigarette, if your wrinkles bother you, maybe its time to quit. Not only giving up the nicotine habit can help prevent wrinkles, but also learning to sleep on your back can help your skin a bit and wear sunscreen daily.
