I think I was mermaid in my former life. Doesn’t matter how stressed out I am or whats going on in my life, once I get to the beach, its like reality doesn’t exist. The beach is truly my paradise, my escape. One of my favorite things to do since childhood is walking on the beach; something this simple has always been very nourishing for me. Aside from the tranquility of the sounds of the waves, the peace you feel when you inhale the salty air, and the relaxation you feel when the warm sand touches you toes, here are some benefits you can easily come by from visiting and walking on the beach.
Exfoliate
Not only will you save a few dollars, but what better way to exfoliate by simply walking on the sand. The combination of the salt and sand will exfoliate the dead skin cells off your feet. You will notice your feet a lot smoother after your visit to the beach.
Waves
The sound of the waves is definitely tranquil. While nature’s symphony plays it’s tune of calmness, how can you not feel at peace. Be sure to lay on your beach towel, close your eyes, and let the sound of the waves crashing on the shore take your mind of reality.
Toning and Strengthening
When taking a beach walk, we don’t realize our muscles work a bit harder in the sand. This will tone us up a bit on our legs and backside. It will also improve bone strength in our hips, knees, and lower legs without straining our joints. Sand provides a natural cushion which absorbs the impact of our steps.
Salty Air Hair
Letting your hair down and the beach breeze flow through it can be very liberating. No need to have your hair done for work and with the combination of salty air, sunshine, and humidity, you’ll have soft waves and golden highlights.
Lymphatic Drainage
While walking on the beach increases circulation, it also gives us a gentle lymphatic massage on our ankles moving away lymph fluid away from our ankles and up our legs.
The View
Subtle shades of blues and greens easily eases your mind. How can one not find inner peace and zen while enjoying the beauty of the sea.
Relaxation and Reflexology
Sea air is enriched with magnesium which helps us with relaxation while the iodine will boost up our thyroid. Walking on the sand also stimulates the pressure points on the soles of our feet.
Sand Warmth
The warm sand between your toes is not only a natural way of getting a pedicure, the sensation of the sand warmth is invigorating to all the nerve endings in your feet. Think of it as a reflexology session.
Antioxidants & Calories
Absorbing free electrons through the soles of our feet has a strong antioxidant effect and may reduce inflammation in our bodies. Since it’s harder to walk on the uneven terrain of the sand, you burn about 20-50% more calories than walking on an even ground.
