As most of us do, I check my social media threads when I wake up in the morning. I saw a social media friend’s post that said, “I need your opinion/advice on how to be a happy individual and succeed in life. Post your comments.” It got me to thinking about my life; my lowest of lows, my highest of highs, and where I am at now. When it comes to happiness, we can receive the greatest advice in the world, it’s a gamble if our minds and hearts are truly open to it. Also, someone else’s advice may or may not be for us anyway. Life isn’t easy…whoever says it is, isn’t really living! Every day, we learn something in all that we do, wherever we are at that contributes to our happiness; most of the time without even realizing it. For years, I was not happy person. It’s exhausting and I am sure I’m not the only one that has felt this way. Am I happy now? I am. I figured out what I needed for MY happiness and will share it with you…
I have learned to not let things or people get the best of me. If a situation arises that involve people you cannot not change, you have to decide if they are worth having in your life. Have tons more positive people in your life than negative. Negative people can and will suck the life out of you and have an effect on your moods.
Spend more time with your family and your spouse. Even something as simple as a phone call or a dinner weekly can increase communication and strengthen the bond between all of you.
Laugh more than cry at things that go wrong. If something doesn’t go your way, pick yourself up and figure out what can make things better. Sometimes we also need to accept that some things are just not for us in the long run.
Do what you love. If you absolutely hate your job, maybe it’s time to turn that passion into a career. Make a list of what you need to do to make that happen, it’s possible and may not take as much as you think it will to get there.
Appreciate nature. Don’t take those beautiful sunrises and sunsets for granted. Take in all those tranquil colors, breathe, and start your day or end your night with taking in Mother Nature’s beauty we were blessed with. Embrace the beauty.
Try new things. Foods, places, meet new people, get out of your comfort zone and branch out to your unknown. You will definitely learn more about the world and yourself.
Love yourself. We all have something to offer. We are all special. We are all beautiful. We all play an important role in making the world go round.
Ask for help. If you need a shoulder to cry on, someone to listen, a way to figure out something you are having trouble with. Don’t be afraid to speak up and out. We don’t always have all the answers for ourselves and sometimes our loved ones do.
Listen to more music and watch less TV. In my opinion, music livens up anything. If I am working at my studio, working at home, blogging, cleaning, I almost always have music on.
Say NO! If you don’t want to do something, DON’T. It’s ok to say NO sometimes. Don’t let people take advantage of you.
Eat the cake. Drink the wine. Put off doing chores till the next day. Sleep late. It’s ok to enjoy life’s guilty pleasures…these things exist to aid in our happiness.
Have faith. Pray. Have a spiritual outlet. Believe in a higher power, its around us. For those that do not believe in God…believe in yourself.
And lastly, lighten up! Though we all have goals, want to make dreams come true and work hard…don’t forget to enjoy your life and all you have in it. We only get one. Enjoy it.
Though most of these things seem easy to do and just a bunch of common sense, we often forget to do them. Be happy friends…it’s the best way to really live life and be successful. <3
